Success Stories

The following are only a few of the many success stories of Springdale Job Corps. These graduates' stories are proof that Job Corps can start you on the path to success.

Kimber Jones

Kimber came to Springdale from the Salem area. She had been working a fast food job and realized it didn't align with her long term goals. She decided Job Corps was a great way to further her goals and get the training she needed.

Kimber started in the CNA training and once she was complete there, requested to move over to the new Pharmacy Technology program. She graduated from Pharmacy Tech and started a full time job with a pet medication company. "Pharmacy Tech has such a variety of options," she said. "I work for a company that sends people the medications their pets need. I would never have thought of that as an option when I started the program!"

As part of her training at Springdale, Kimber was encouraged to think about where she would want her training to take her. She knows she wants to work in the medical field, but right now it's deciding on whether her patients will be human or animal. "I love the idea of being a veterinarian, but I also like helping people. Right now I'm using the skills I learned at Springdale and deciding what my next step will be."

We are excited for Kimber's success and can't wait to see where she goes next!

Gustavo Torres

Gustavo grew up in Hood River and came to Springdale after hearing a radio at while at the gym. The way he describes it, he saw his friends moving on in their lives, starting their careers, and growing up and he hadn't completed high school. He heard a radio ad about Job Corps and went straight home and applied.

While at Springdale, Gustavo completed his high school diploma and finished the Office Administration trade. In April of 2015, Gustavo was selected to be the Springdale student ambassador at the National Job Corps Association's gala to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Job Corps program. He spent a week in Washington, D.C. meeting with members of Congress and the Job Corps National Director, telling them his story and how Job Corps has helped him choose a career path. Over the summer, he applied to the Advanced Career Training program and was accepted for the Fall 2015 term at Mount Hood Community College.

Gustavo sees his time at Springdale as the catalyst he needed to jump start his future and is looking forward to what his training and education will lead him to!
